The NOAA Privacy Act Home Page is provided as a public service by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The NOAA Privacy Act Office performs functions that require the collection and dissemination of scientific, technical, economic and, in some cases personal information. Information collected by NOAA is done so in compliance with the protections required under the Freedom of Information Act, the Privacy Act, the Paperwork Reduction Act, and the National Archives and Records Administration General Schedule 20, and the Privacy Act Principles established by the National Information Infrastructure Task Force.

The NOAA Home Page Team has also included the following Privacy and Security Notice, which covers all of NOAA's web sites:

1. Information presented on NOAA web sites is considered public information and may be distributed or copied. Use of appropriate byline/photo/image credits is required.
2. For site management, information is collected for statistical purposes. NOAA's government computer system uses software programs to create summary statistics used for assessing what information is of most and least interest, determining technical design specifications, and identifying system performance or problem areas.
3. For site security purposes and to ensure that this service remains available to all users, NOAA's government computer system employs software programs to monitor network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage.
4. Except for authorized law enforcement investigations, no other attempts are made to identify individual users or their usage habits. Raw data logs are used for no other purposes and are scheduled for regular destruction in accordance with the National Archives and Records Administration General Schedule 20.
5. Unauthorized attempts to upload information or change information on this service are strictly prohibited and may be punishable under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1986 and the National Information Infrastructure Protection Act.
